St-Viateur Bagel has been baking its delicious bagels for more than 60 years and is delighted to be Montréal’s oldest bagel store. St-Viateur Bagel’s success, according to current owner Joe Morena and his three sons Vincenzo, Nicola, and Roberto is owed in part to their devoted and committed staff, many of whom have been hand-rolling bagels for more than 25 years and are an integral part of the bagel-making family.
The Morena brothers, like their dads, have been in the bagel industry since they were in their early teens and gladly preserve the traditions that have been passed down to them. They are committed to this historic monument and the consumers it serves, as well as to maintaining Montréal’s beloved bagel heritage for future generations.

“The OG bagel shop! Whenever we come to Montreal, we come to St.Viateur. It hasn’t changed since I was a kid coming here with my dad. The flavour has not changed. I’ve had New a York Bagels, and tbh, these are hands down better by a long shot. The best bagel is the sesame bagel. You must visit here if you come to Montreal.” – Vik Gandhi
Fairmount Bagel was founded by Isadore Shlafman immigrated to Canada in 1919. The Montreal Bagel Bakery was its name. It was off of Saint-Lawrence Boulevard, which was then known as “The Main,” at the end of a lane. This is where Montrealers first tried a bagel, which was hand-rolled and cooked in a wood-fired oven. Isadore gave the same traditions and skills from the old land, and the family continues to produce their bagel today. All of their bagels are still hand-rolled and cooked in our old-fashioned wood-fired ovens.

“These bagels are next level delicious, I totally get the hype! I ordered 4 different flavours since I couldn’t decide and each one was stellar. The dough was nice and chewy but still light and they PACK ON the seasoning. Every bite you take is a crunchy explosion of flavour. Paired with a bit of butter, turned into a sandwich, or even on its own, these bagels are no joke!” – Danielle Browne
La Fabrique de Bagel de Montréal
La Fabrique de Bagel de Montréal is proud of its dedication to excellence. Their traditional MTL Style Bagels are kettle boiled with honey and baked to perfection, giving their customers the ideal bagel that is crispy on the surface and chewy on the inside. “I had a great experience here for the first time around. I had no idea where to start so if it’s your first trip in for a bagel here I’d say go for what they call the all dressed bagel and choose the garlic cream cheese. The bagels are fresh and taste even better toasted. I was going for the tomato but the girl there suggested garlic. Glad I listened.” – Stephen Welton
Ville-Émard Bagels provides the first wood-fired bagel oven. In Montreal, they provide a wide variety of tasty bagels, as well as the highest-quality coffee available. “Short story, this place has been there for a long time and I’ve always been around it but I actually never thought of trying since I always go to st-Viateur bagels. This morning, I finally decided to give it a try. The result: OMG WAY BETTER THAN ANY OTHER BAGELS BAKERY. I’ve met Jimmy, the owner and he is a great guy and from what I can see, he’s a hard worker too!!! I highly recommend it!! You won’t regret your experience.” – Rayan Gazlye
Dizz’s Bagel & Deli
Dizz’s Bagel & Deli provides the best bagel assortment in the city, as well as a range of daily prepared dishes like sandwiches, salads, soups, fresh bread, and delicious baked pastries. Dizz’s Bagel & Deli, originally REAL Bagel CSL, was founded in 1995 by Steve Dizgun and his father Irwin, also known as Dizzy. Previously, all bagel shops in the city sold bagels, lox, cream cheese, milk, juice, and other bakery items, but that changed.
The Dizguns’ idea brought a new dimension to the game. You may now order a complete dinner from their broad selection of prepared dishes cooked fresh every day, in addition to your hot, fresh bagels with all the fixings.
