St-Viateur Bagel
St-Viateur Bagel has been baking its delicious bagels for more than 60 years and is delighted to be Montréal’s oldest bagel store. St-Viateur Bagel’s success, according to current owner Joe Morena and his three sons Vincenzo, Nicola, and Roberto is owed in part to their devoted and committed staff, many of whom have been hand-rolling bagels for more than 25 years and are an integral part of the bagel-making family.
The Morena brothers, like their dads, have been in the bagel industry since they were in their early teens and gladly preserve the traditions that have been passed down to them. Fairmount Bagel
Fairmount Bagel was founded by Isadore Shlafman immigrated to Canada in 1919. The Montreal Bagel Bakery was its name. It was off of Saint-Lawrence Boulevard, which was then known as “The Main,” at the end of a lane. This is where Montrealers first tried a bagel, which was hand-rolled and cooked in a wood-fired oven. Isadore gave the same traditions and skills from the old land, and the family continues to produce their bagel today. All of their bagels are still hand-rolled and cooked in our old-fashioned wood-fired ovens.
